CAD/CAM/CAEAutodesk Labs tech demo enhances machine positioning and material handling flow.
For industrial engineers and factory designers who commonly use AutoCAD to layout machinery on the plant floor, Autodesk, Inc. announced Factory Layout Optimization, a tech demo plug-in for AutoCAD available on the company’s Labs website.
According to the company, the free utility is designed to help designers create leaner manufacturing methods by optimizing machine positioning from a material handling standpoint. With real-time feedback, the utility lets designers define the material flow paths and explore multiple scenarios early in the design process.
The Technology Preview can be applied to new or existing 2D layout designs in AutoCAD 2011, AutoCAD Architecture 2011, AutoCAD Mechanical 2011 and Autodesk Factory Design Suite 2011; both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. While the UI is in English, the technology preview is compatible with non-English versions.
