MDA to set up Satellite Centre of Excellence in Montreal

The government of Quebec has agreed to support the venture financially through a series of loans and grants.

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) has announced that it will establish a centre of excellence in Montreal supporting its satellite operations.

The Canadian communications and information company’s Quebec subsidiary has signed a Letter of Intent with the Government of Quebec to establish a Satellite Centre of Excellence in Montreal.

There was little details on the new projects. However, the province of Quebec has agreed to support the new venture financially including up to $45 million as a royalty-based contingent venture loan for a next-generation digital payload satellite system development and manufacturing project; and, $3 million in the form of a non-refundable financial contribution which will be used to support the establishment of the Satellite Centre of Excellence.

Donato adds that this announcement demonstrates and reinforces MDA’s ongoing commitment to Quebec and Canada.
