Plastic bearings replace traditional bronze

Igus Inc. has introduced a plastic plain bearing, iglide R, to replace traditional bronze bearings in many applications. Iglide R, like all iglide plastic bearings, requires no lubrication, is oil-free and will not corrode.
The bearing is said to be resistant to dirt, dust and UV rays, as well as quiet and environmentally safe, making it suitable for agricultural and outdoor applications. The benefits of using iglide R plastic bearings over bronze bearings include: self lubrication and maintenance-free operation; plastic-based construction delivers better vibration dampening; plastic can handle edge loading better than bronze; and plastic can support rotary, oscillating or linear movement.
