Miki Pulley Step-Flex coupling solves resonance in steppermotor/ball screw assemblies.

14-june-Miki-Pulley-shaft-coupling-360Miki Pulley announced that it has introduced its Step-Flex Coupling for direct sale to OEM’s in North America. Design to eliminate resonance in stepper motor ball screw assemblies, the company’s shaft coupling features a two-part elastomer element that dampens vibration caused by the actuator carrier struggling to find its home position by making small adjustments in rapid sequence.

With this construction, the hard (black) element is separated from the aluminum alloy hubs by a softer (green) elastomer. This maintains enough torsional stiffness for precise positional accuracy while still allowing for minimal angular and parallel misalignment. The power-transmitting element, consisting of different hardness layers, also achieves a reduction in counter force generated by misalignment. The coupling’s bore size ranges from 1/8 to 5/8-inch (3mm – 16mm) with a torque rating of 53 in-lbs. (6 Nm).
