3D Freebie: Catia to Solidworks translation
Mike McLeod
CAD/CAM/CAE CAD Dassault Systemes Software SolidWorksCADCAM-E’s CAT5Works Express gives away bi-directional CAD data translation between Catia and Solidworks.
Ever since Dassault Systemes purchased Solidworks in 1997, it’s been a persistent sore point with both CAD companies – and a frustration for users – that both packages can open nearly every other CAD file, except each others’. To make things worse, many of the available solutions, including Dassault Systemes’, can cost thousands of dollars.
CAD translation software firm, CADCAM-E, recently posted CAT5Works Express, a no-cost version of its Catia / Solidworks translation software, CAT5Works. Available as an either 32- and 64-bit executable, the bi-directional plug-in integrates into SolidWorks; doesn’t require CATIA V5 installation; and supports both parts (CATPart) and Assemblies (CATProduct), the company says.
Free download of the plug-in (with registration through Gmail, Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn) is available on the CCE’s Labs page.
