Steely hook and loop fastener takes on tough applications
Hook and loop fasteners have become commonplace features of both industry and households. However, they have one snag: they are too weak for many applications. Hook and loop fasteners made of spring steel have now been developed at the Institute of Metal Forming and Casting of the Technische Universitaet Muenchen. These fasteners are resistant to chemicals and can withstand a tensile load of up to 35 tonnes per square meter at temperatures as high as 800°C.

Adhesive locks/seals fasteners on food processing equipment
For use on threaded fasteners located on food- and beverage-processing equipment, Henkel Corporation has introduced Loctite 2046, a medium strength, removable two-part anaerobic threadlocker that fully complies with the U.S. Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and with all applicable food additive regulations including 21 C.F.R. 175.300.
Floating access fasteners compensate for thread misalignment
PEM floating access hardware introduced by PennEngineering include a captive screw assembly for permanent installation into panels of any hardness with the capability to compensate for up to .060 in./1.52 mm mating thread misalignment. The licensed MAThread anti cross-threading screw technology adds value by correcting off-angle installations and reliably aligning components. The floating panel fasteners (Type PF11MW with knurled cap and Type PF12MW with smooth cap) enable subsequent access to an assembly.

BLIND RIVET FASTENER
The Hucklok blind rivet fastener, a structural rivet from Alcoa Fastening Systems, offers a quarter-inch grip range, allowing the product to join assemblies from 1/8 to 7/8 in. thick. The fastener’s footprint, or "bulb", spreads the load over a broad area. The wider grip range is due to the shear ring. After the maximum clamp has been achieved from minimum to maximum grip, the shear ring breaks free from the pin and settles into the appropriate catch groove. The clamp is consistent through the grip range.
