ATS reports $8 million profit for third quarter

System integrator’s revenues slip slightly from last year.

Cambridge, Ont. — ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. announced that it earned $8 million in its latest quarter as revenue slipped from a year ago. The manufacturing equipment maker said profits amounted to nine cents per share for the quarter ended Sept. 30 compared with a loss of $67.1 million or 76 cents per share a year ago.

Excluding discontinued operations, the company said it earned $9.7 million or 11 cents per share, up from $9.3 million or 11 cents per share a year ago. Revenue totalled $141.4 million, down from $145.9 million.

“Second-quarter performance reflected our solid financial and operating platform, which allowed us to operate profitably and generate cash despite some challenges,” chief executive Anthony Caputo said in a statement. ATS employs approximately 2,400 people at 20 factories in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.
