Harting, a global technology specialist in industrial and device connectivity, unveiled a series of new educational tools – including Harting U – at EDS 2015 that it says will make it easier and faster for engineers to determine the right solution for their applications.

Harting U was the headliner at Harting’s annual EDS open house event. Harting U is a free, web-based information portal that will help inform engineers, including students, about products, concepts and trends relevant to their needs. It will be a single source for white papers, FAQ’s, tutorial videos, best practices, technical articles, case studies, customer testimonials, apps and press information.

“Harting U will provide tools to help the engineers better inform themselves when choosing a connector solutions provider,“ Jon DeSouza, president and CEO of Harting, Inc. of North America says. “It offers free, no-hassle access to industry-related content of interest to them. We’re committed to updating that content and adding much more in the months and years to come. We intend for Harting U to be the go-to educational resource for industry.”

Also at the open house, Harting unveiled a new Knowledge Center app that streamlines the search process for finding solutions and other information available from the company. The new app complements the Han configurator app, which Harting North America unveiled last year that helps customers design their own custom industrial connector from standard components in Harting’s Han lineup.

Harting is also expanding its presence at major North American trade shows like IMTS 2016 with a new two-story booth. And later this year, its new roadshow truck will begin touring the U.S. and Canada as a support tool for assisting customers and distributors.

“Customers are doing more homework today before they pick a solutions provider, and they want access to educational content to help them make informed choices,” says DeSouza. “Haring already is the one-stop shop for solutions for industrial and device productivity, and we plan to be a one-stop resource for critical information about time tested solutions and trends relevant to each of our markets.”

Harting also announced the Harting annual North American distributor awards, with the headline Distinguished Award for Distributor of the Year going to Mouser Electronics for the second consecutive year. Mouser was honored for achieving significant revenue growth, exceptional commitment to inventory, and for overall excellence as a partner.

Digi-Key Corp. received the Distinguished Award for New Customer Growth by adding more new customers than any other Harting distributor.

Future Electronics, based in Montreal, Canada, received the Distinguished Award for New Product Sales Growth, for purchasing a larger volume of new Harting products than any other distributor. That marks the first time a distributor based in Canada has won one of Harting North America’s annual awards.

EDS is the premier North American trade event for the international electronics industry, and serves as a showcase for Harting’s newest component innovations for industrial and device connectivity.

The importance of EDS in Harting North America’s trade show calendar was underscored by the presence at the open house of Philip F.W. Harting, senior vice president Connectivity and Networks, and General Partner of the parent Harting Technology Group (see video above). He provided an overview of the current global business environment and the company’s ambitious global growth strategy, including investments like Harting’s new Quality and Technology Center at global headquarters in Espelkamp, Germany.
