If users make a mess of their Autodesk CAD install, this quick tip sets config back to zero.

There may come a time when you would like to reset AutoCAD 2015 based and/or Inventor 2015 applications back to their original installation configuration. AutoCAD 2015 based applications include AutoCAD, AutoCAD Mechanical and AutoCAD Electrical. The “Reset” button for these is easy to find. Browse under the application icon on the Start menu and you will see “Reset Setting to Default”.

Executing this reset will give you a chance to backup your custom setting before it finishes. Inventor reset tool has to be downloaded from the following website:

The website will give you all the information about what the reset tool will do and tell you how to make configuration backups before execution. Running the reset tool is quick and easy with just one dialog box. It will prompt you for the Inventor version (year) you would like to reset. Once selected, press the “Reset” icon at the bottom to finish.

It should be pointed out that this tool will not return default configuration files back to their out of the box state. If for example, you have modified the default installation Inventor templates, the reset tool will not return them to their original state.

These tools are great for trainers who wish to return the software to the original configuration between students or for a CAD administrator you needs to reset an Inventor application when a user makes a mess of it.
