Magna International donates to Japan disaster relief fund

Magna International announced that the company is donating $250,000 USD (20,157,400 JPY) to the Japan Red Cross to assist disaster relief efforts in Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami which occurred on March 11, 2011.

In addition, the company has also established a disaster relief fund to directly assist its employees in Japan.

“On behalf of the entire Magna International family, I wish to extend our most sincere sympathy and support during this most difficult time,” said Don Walker, CEO of Magna International. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Magna Japan, our valued customers and the people of Japan.”

Magna has approximately 180 employees in Japan at two manufacturing operations and four sales, engineering and product development offices. All Magna employees in Japan and their families are safe and have been accounted for, and the company has ceased operations for at least this week.
