NEi Software releases FEA for iPhone app

NEi Stratus combines Nastran and cloud computing for engineering analysis on the go.

Westminster, CA–NEi Software released a free mobile FEA application, NEi Stratus to the Apple App Store. As yet, the iPhone and iPad app is limited to performing finite element analysis on basic shapes like flat plates, blocks, cylinders and tubes.

Users can then specify that shapes dimensions; the material (steel or aluminium); and apply loads on the X, Y or Z axis or a combination of each. Loads can be configured to apply to a face, edge or vertice and constraints set.

Since mobile devices don’t have the computational muscle to handle complex engineering analysis, the set-up is transmitted to servers running NEi Nastan “in the cloud” which crunch the problem and return results to the mobile Apple device.

While the options are limited at this point, it’s not hard to imagine that the application will eventually grow to include more complex user models uploaded and analyzed remotely.

NEi Stratus is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 4.2 or later.
