General Automotive engineering Formula SAE University of WaterlooEngineering team suspended after bikini-clad team member poses for racy race car photo.
Waterloo newspaper, The Record, reports that the University of Waterloo has suspended its Formula SAE team—engineering students who designed and built a race car for a contest in Michigan in May—until June 1, thereby restricting the team from entering.
The suspension is due to a picture of one of the team members, who posed in a two-piece bikini, in front of the race car, which was later posted online. An engineering student herself, and the leader of the chassis design team, the young woman reportedly wanted the photos to enter a contest to be in a fund-raising calendar for a breast cancer charity.
According to the Record’s story, University of Waterloo’s dean of engineering, Adel Sedra, suspended the team for “Misuse of the student design centre space for an unauthorized photo shoot.”
