Maxon’s EPOS4 controller line offers EtherCAT, a compact design and high configurability.

Maxon motor unveiled its EPOS4 range of modular, digital-positioning controllers, designed to control permanent magnet-activated motors with encoders in a range of 1 to 1050W continuous output power. The controller series also features a range of operating modes and command interfaces. For example, the EPOS4 Compact 50/8 EtherCAT and EPOS4 Compact 50/15 EtherCAT are compatible with EtherCAT, making it suitable for networks with cycle times up to 1ms. The devices are suitable for use with both brushed DC and brushless EC motors and feature feedback options such as Hall sensors, as well as incremental and SSI absolute encoders. The controller’s digital and analog inputs and outputs are configurable and matched to the functions and operating modes of CiA-402 positioning controllers. Set-up uses the EPOS Studio graphical user interface for Windows PCs, but Windows DLL and Linux Shared Objects libraries are also available to make integration with master systems possible.
