Windchill to enable significant vehicle development process improvements for global automotive OEM

Needham, MA – PTC is celebrating a big win in the automotive sector, one historically dominated by its competitors. Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors Corporation announced that it will standardize on PTC’s Windchill as its PLM platform.

Following a two-year benchmark testing and selection process, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors Corporation said they selected Windchill to consolidate multiple existing systems into a single platform. Initially, Windchill will manage the core R&D groups with the intention to eventually roll it out to its internal and external value chain.

The first phase of delivery, which has already begun, establishes a system of record for the complete vehicle including the engineering Bill of Materials and change management. Phase I also includes CATIA data management and a Digital Mock-Up (DMU) environment. The system gradually is expected to be expanded globally.

This win is latest a growing momentum for the company in the automotive industry. In July 2010, the company landed Continental, a global automotive supplier of brake systems, powertrains and chassis with approximately 134,000 employees in 46 countries. According to the company, PTC’s customers in the automotive industry utilizing its design, PDM and/or collaboration solutions include eight of the Top 10 power train suppliers and three of the Top Five automotive OEMs.
