ASM presents the posiwire® sensors WST61, WST85 and WST21, combining linear position determination and inclination measurement—ensuring easy installation and cost-effectiveness.

In many applications—including transport cranes and machines for the pharmaceutical industry and in medical technology—both linear position and inclination need to be determined. As a rule, two different sensors are used for this, even if displacement and inclination are measured at the same point on the machine. This is not only more complex to install (cabling and assembly work), but it also increases costs.

The posiwire® WST61, WST85 and WST21 cable sensors from ASM offer this type of combined displacement and inclination measurement. Displacement measurement is carried out using the new generation of ASM posiwire® cable technology. It is equipped with magnetic, non-contact multihall encoder technology and is therefore much more robust than conventional draw-wire sensors with optical encoders or potentiometer solutions. The inclination position is determined by an integrated inclination sensor based on MEMS technology.

posiwire® sensors are suitable for use in harsh environments, especially in mobile machines. The WST sensors measure linear positions up to 4,000 mm (WST61), 6,000 mm (WST85) and 20,000 m (WST21) and inclination in the range +/-180° in 1 axis. They are available with CANopen digital output. The displacement sensors achieve a linearity of up to +/- 0.05 % of the measuring range, the inclination sensors up to 0.05°. The sensors have protection class IP67/IP69. The sensors are available with redundant electronics for safety applications
