Sustainability Electronics Materials AutomotiveA startup founded by four University of Waterloo Engineering alumni is revolutionizing the boating industry with the launch of the ENVGO NV1—a zero-emissions electric hydrofoiling boat—and expects to deliver its boats to early adopter customers next year.
ENVGO, established in 2021 by Mike Peasgood, April Blaylock, Paul Masojc and Jerry Mailloux, combines cutting-edge clean technology with a luxurious design to redefine on-water experiences.
The NV1, a 25-foot, six-passenger luxury cruiser priced at CA$400,000, leverages hydrofoiling technology to “fly” above the water, reducing drag for an efficient, smooth and virtually silent ride. With speeds up to 80 km/h and a range of 130 kilometers, the NV1 eliminates traditional boating drawbacks like pollution, noise, and wake. By utilizing battery technology akin to electric vehicles, the NV1 sets a new benchmark for sustainable performance.
Drawing on the founders’ extensive expertise, including their work at Aeryon Labs (a Waterloo-based drone startup), ENVGO applies principles from flight control and propulsion systems to their hydrofoiling boats. Collaborations with industry leaders, such as superyacht designer David Weiss and America’s Cup naval architects, ensure the NV1’s superior engineering and aesthetic appeal.
As environmental awareness reaches an all-time high, ENVGO is poised to lead the transition to cleaner energy in the marine sector. With its innovative design and intelligent autonomous features, the NV1 offers a transformative blend of sustainability, luxury and cutting-edge technology, setting a new standard for the future of boating.
