Ottawa-based engineering design firm to create state-of-the-art Joint Support Ship.

Ottawa — BMT Fleet Technology announced it has started its design work for the Canadian Forces’ (CF) new Joint Support Ship (JSS). BMT’s design will incorporate the results of its years of experience with the JSS project and its understanding of the Navy’s operational needs.

“We are delighted at the confidence shown in BMT by the Canadian government,” said Andrew Carran, BMT VP of Defence Projects. “Our objective is to ensure that the Canadian Forces get the best ship with which to perform their challenging missions now and for years to come.”

BMT Fleet Technology will develop the new design option for the JSS around the CF’s detailed requirements for a highly capable, state-of-the-art vessel that will fully support CF missions worldwide. The design team will also draw on the resources of the BMT group, the international design engineering and risk management consultancy which has first-hand experience working on similar projects for other navies around the world.
