Mechanical engineering co-ed now leads university’s motorsport team.

12-waterloo-motorsport-cole-360Waterloo newspaper, The Record, reports that University of Waterloo engineering student, Cassandra Cole, has returned to complete her degree and is now the second woman to lead the university’s motorsports team in its 25 year history.

Last year, a photo of Ms. Cole in a bikini and high heels prompted the school to bar her and fellow Formula SAE teammates from attending an international motorsport competition in Michigan.

Following the controversy, Ms. Cole reportedly withdrew from the team and took a co-op placement designing car parts for Swift Engineering in California. Last Fall, she returned to Canada and began the term she missed in January.

In addition to leading University of Waterloo’s Motorsport team for 2013, Ms. Cole has also started CassColeRacing, a website that chronicles her formula design work at University of Waterloo as well as her own car racing inspired fashion and ongoing fashion modeling.
